Responsibilities of a Business Analyst

Being a business analyst may seem easy, but the job requires the knowledge and skills of many key areas. Business analysts must have business systems training and must thoroughly understand the industry and the organization in which they belong.

Business analysts need to be able to take all available resources and must know how to identify what is required to take a project or product through to completion. Their responsibilities include managing people as well as activities of each unique project, coordinating work being done by different teams, and making sure that they bridge the gap between the IT department and the clients. Because the foundations of any solution or project are the project requirements, business analysts need business requirements training to be able to identify clients’ requirements, identify their scope and then communicate the needs clearly throughout the organization so that the requirements will be met. It is essential that they follow through the initiatives and make sure the requirements of the clients are appropriately represented. They should also get feedback from the stake holders in order to refine the solution model and make it feasible and more effective.

Communication is an important aspect of a business analyst’s job. Business analysts should be able to take the information they learned in the analysis, document the information clearly and present the documented information to various audiences in a structure and format that is appropriate and easily understood. Approach and timing of the presentation of the documented information must be taken into consideration.
