Renovate or Move?
As time pass by, your family grows. From initial members of you and your spouse, your family tends to add more members as you start to have children. Thus, you family needs also tend to grow. There are also circumstances that an extended family, like your in-laws or parents, would have to share the house with you. Thus, in some point in time, you tend to feel that your house is too small to shelter all of you.
A house renovation is a good option in making your home larger and spacious enough to accommodate every member of your family. Renovations may include expending a room’s size, changing your house’s features to suit your family’s needs, and even construction of additional rooms in the house. Yet, when it comes to major renovations that would mean renovating a huge chunk of your house or even the demolition of the entire house in order to build a new one, the amount of the expenses can be quite overwhelming and you might consider moving to a new and larger house instead.
In order to determine whether it is wise to move into a new house instead of opting for a renovation, you can try to talk to at least three contractors and discuss the possible cost of the renovations you would like to have. If the cost of moving on a different neighborhood and into a larger house would be cheaper than your desired renovation, then it is better to move.
